WELCOME
From the Four Directions began
in late 2000. It is a global leadership initiative of the Berkana Institute, an organization
founded by Dr. Margaret Wheatley, author of Leadership and the New
Science (Berrett-Koehler, 1999) the Turning
to One Another (Berrett-Koehler, 2002).
From the Four Directions serves the vision of
Berkana -- a world
where people experience themselves as whole, healthy, sacred and free.
The particular way in which From the Four Directions accomplishes
this is through creating and supporting local, on-going leadership circles
focused on life-affirming leadership.
- We define
a leader as anyone who wants to help at this time, who sees things that
need to be changed in their local community.
- We work
around the globe to organize local conversation circles among citizen
leaders so that they might name their hopes and challenges, learn from
colleagues, and act courageously to move their hopes into
reality.
- We provide
technical expertise, coaching, networking and resources for people to
start circles and ensure their success.
- We connect
local circles to one another to weave a global network that can emerge
as a global force for change.
- Our
circles provide support and clarity for individuals to step forward as
leaders on behalf of those issues that most concern them.
Please wander
around and learn who we are. We are a very diverse global group of
dreamers and doers. We dream of a world where every organization, whether
in business, government, or public benefit, knows how to bring out the
best in us humans: our creativity, our caring, our desire for peace and
health. We believe that these changes must come from citizens and leaders
working in their communities across the planet.
We would love
to have you join us in this work.
